The Importance of Being Found by the Search Engines

The search engines are the mechanism by which your website is likely to be found. When a prospective visitor wants something, he/she will invariably go to Google, type in what he/she is looking for, and instantly, the search engine will go through the millions of pages it has indexed and show the ones that match the phrase searched for. The searched matches are also ranked in the Google presumed order of importance, so that the most relevant ones come first.

Searchers will probably only look at the first 2-3 listings in the search results, and not bother even to go to the next page, so if your site is not on the first page, you are wasting your time and effort.

Further, they virtually all use Google, which attracts more visitors to websites than any other search engine. So finally it all depends on how Google ranks your site. This is where the page rank system comes into play. Google looks at a site and rates its importance by the relevance to the search topic, and the number and ranking of other sites which are linking to yours.

Keywords and keyword phrases play an important role in getting your website noticed by the search engines. Make sure your keyword and keyword phrases are in the right places on your page. Keep up with the latest changes in search engine algorithms, keep inputting your keyword phrase into Google, to see where your page ranks. If it’s not high, change your keyword phrase to something a lot more specific, probably five or six words long, and try again. Keep changing and refining your keyword phrase until you get on to that first page.

Try writing an article, and include your new specific keyword phrase in you bio box.

Surveys have found that when customers want to find a website for information or to buy a product or service, they find what they are looking for in one or other of the following ways:

• The first option is they find their site through a search engine, and as mentioned before, this is more likely than not to be Google.
• Secondly they find your site by clicking on a link from another website or page that relates to the topic in which they are interested, and which has your link on it.
• They may see your site in the Adwords section, when searching in Google.
• Occasionally, they find a site by hearing about it from a friend or reading in an article.
• Also they may click on a link in an article bio box, after going to an article directory service, like www.article-news-org.

Therefore it’s obvious the most popular way to find a site is by search engine, and as Google is used by more than 98% of online users, that’s the one you need to get a ranking on.
